Beautiful Bookmarks is a Chrome extension that replaces the new tab page with visual bookmarks and lets users search their Chrome bookmarks. This policy explains what information the extension handles and why.

Information handled locally

The following information is stored locally in the user’s Chrome profile:

  • visual bookmark names, URLs, and their order;
  • theme, grid, search, and preview preferences;
  • an uploaded background image, when the user chooses one;
  • cached website preview images and preview refresh timestamps.

Beautiful Bookmarks does not operate a developer-controlled server and does not use analytics, advertising, or tracking tools.

Chrome bookmarks

When the user searches from the new tab page, the extension reads bookmark titles and URLs through the Chrome Bookmarks API to display matching results. This search is performed locally. The extension does not create, edit, or delete the user’s Chrome bookmarks and does not send them to the developer or to preview providers.

Current tab information

When the user clicks the Beautiful Bookmarks toolbar icon, the extension reads the URL and title of the active tab solely to prefill the “New bookmark” form. It does not read page content or monitor browsing activity in the background.

Clipboard

Clipboard access is optional and is requested only after the user clicks a “Paste” button. Clipboard text is used solely to fill the bookmark URL field. It is not transmitted and is stored only if the user chooses to save the bookmark.

Website previews and favicons

Website previews are enabled by default as part of the extension’s visual-bookmark functionality. Beautiful Bookmarks sends only the public origin of a saved website to Thum.io to create a screenshot. The hostname or public origin may also be sent to Icon Horse and Google Favicon to obtain a favicon.

Page paths, query parameters, fragments, Chrome bookmarks, uploaded backgrounds, and private or local network addresses are not sent to these providers. Selecting “Minimal” card appearance stops preview and external favicon requests and deletes locally cached website screenshots.

Google search and service shortcuts

If the user explicitly selects “Google search” and submits a query, Beautiful Bookmarks navigates the current tab to Google Search and includes the query in the Google URL. Selecting Google Lens or AI Mode navigates to the corresponding Google service; when a query is already present, selecting AI Mode includes it in the destination URL. Google processes searches, uploaded images, and subsequent activity under the Google Privacy Policy. Beautiful Bookmarks does not separately store search queries, images, or activity on Google services.

The Google apps launcher contains static shortcuts to Google services. The extension does not read Google account information or activity within those services.

Data sharing and sale

Beautiful Bookmarks does not sell user data or use it for advertising. Outside user-initiated navigation to Google Search, Lens, AI Mode, or another selected Google service, data is transferred to preview and favicon providers only when “Website preview” card appearance is selected and only as necessary to generate website images and icons.

Website contact form

When a visitor uses the Contacts page, the subject and message they enter are sent to FormSubmit so the message can be delivered to the Beautiful Bookmarks support inbox. FormSubmit may process technical request information and retains form submissions for up to 30 days according to its documentation. Contact-form information is used only to respond to support requests and is not used for advertising or analytics.

Retention and deletion

Locally stored information remains in the user’s Chrome profile until the user deletes it, clears extension storage, or uninstalls the extension. Third-party providers may retain request information according to their own policies.

Limited Use

Beautiful Bookmarks’ use and transfer of information received from Chrome APIs adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Changes

If this policy or the extension’s data practices materially change, the policy will be updated and users will receive any disclosure or consent required before the new practice begins.
